Our Services

  • The Housing Justice Project at Skagit Legal Aid offers a range of services to support tenants. The program represents qualified tenants in eviction (unlawful detainer) cases under Washington’s Right to Counsel Law in the Superior Courts of Skagit, San Juan, Island, and Whatcom counties.

We also provide advice and legal representation to help tenants avoid eviction due to unpaid rent or other lease-related issues. The project works directly with landlords to prevent evictions and protect tenants’ rights.

In addition, we assist tenants who have been illegally evicted and helps individuals apply for eviction prevention resources, including rental assistance, relocation support, and other related services.

  • Our Immigration Program provides compassionate, high-quality legal services to immigrant community members. Our team assists individuals and families seeking safety and stability through asylum applications, helping those who have fled persecution pursue protection in the United States.

We support young people through Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) petitions, guiding vulnerable youth toward lawful permanent residency. For eligible individuals, we prepare and file Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) renewals.

In addition, we represent survivors of crime and abuse in applying for U-Visas and other survivor-based immigration remedies, ensuring they can access safety, legal status, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives. Our mission is to stand alongside immigrant communities with dignity, advocacy, and trusted legal support.

  • Our role is to provide culturally respectful, community-centered civil legal services that honor Tribal sovereignty and strengthen self-determination. We work alongside Indigenous clients to address urgent legal needs—such as housing instability, protection from violence, access to public benefits, and family stability—while ensuring that their rights are upheld both within state systems and in coordination with Tribal courts when appropriate.

We are committed to building trust, listening deeply, and partnering with Tribal communities to ensure that access to justice is meaningful, culturally responsive, and grounded in respect.

  • We assist individuals in moving forward after involvement with the criminal legal system by addressing the ongoing barriers that past convictions can create. Our services include helping clients waive or reduce Legal Financial Obligations (LFOs), vacate eligible convictions to clear their records, and reinstate suspended driver’s licenses. Through this work, we aim to remove obstacles to employment, housing, and stability, and support long-term success and reentry into the community.

  • We provide compassionate and practical legal support to individuals navigating major family transitions. Our services include assistance with agreed dissolutions of marriage, helping parties complete uncontested divorces efficiently and with clarity.
